Frequently asked questions

How do I add a game to my collection?

From the home screen or the My games tab, tap Add a game and type its title. Results come from the IGDB database: pick the right game and its notebook is created straight away, cover art and year included.

How many games can I add for free?

The free version lets you keep 10 games in your collection, with no limit on pages or blocks. You can delete a game to add another at any time. The Complete Edition lifts the limit for good.

What happens if I delete a game?

The game, its pages and its blocks are deleted from your device. Deletion is permanent: think about what you are losing before confirming.

How do I organise a notebook?

A notebook is split into pages you name however you like (Bosses, Build, Secrets, Side quests…). Each page holds blocks you add with one tap from the palette at the bottom: text, checklist, photo, annotated map. Press and hold to reorder them; the block menu lets you rename or delete them.

How do annotated maps work?

Add a Map block, choose an image (a screenshot, a floor plan, a world map), then tap the image to drop a landmark. Every landmark can be renamed, dragged with a finger or deleted. Tapping the map opens it full screen.

In a text block, write [[Page title]] or use the link insertion button in the toolbar. The link becomes tappable, and if the page does not exist yet it is created on the fly. The Referenced by section, at the bottom of a page, lists the pages that mention it.

What is the 0–100 score for?

It is your score, the one you would give the game. It appears as a coloured gauge according to its tier and feeds sorting and the collection overview. It stays private: it is neither published nor shared.

How do I log a play session?

Open a game’s notebook, then the Sessions card. Add a session with its duration, how you felt and a free note if you want. Grym adds up your playtime automatically and shows it in the overview.

Does Grym work offline?

Yes. All your notebooks can be read and edited offline. A connection is only needed to search for a new game and download its cover art — once fetched, it is kept on the device.

How do I find something in my notebooks?

Use the global search from the home screen: it goes through game titles, page names, your texts, your checklist items and your map landmarks, all offline. Your notebooks also show up in the iPhone’s Spotlight search.

What is in the Complete Edition?

A one-off purchase unlocking unlimited games, every visual theme and the full overview of your collection. No subscription, no renewal.

I changed iPhone — how do I get my purchase back?

Open the Profile tab, go into the Premium screen and tap Restore purchases. Use the same Apple ID as when you bought it.

Are my notebooks synced across my devices?

Not yet. In this version, your data lives on the device where you created it. iCloud syncing is planned for a future update.

How do I change the language or the theme?

In the Profile tab: the Language section switches between French and English, the Appearance section offers the visual themes. The default theme is free, the others are part of the Complete Edition.

App publisher

Grym is a mobile application developed and published by:

Description

Grym is a personal gaming notebook for iOS. It lets you keep, game by game, a notebook made of pages and blocks — notes, checklists, photos and annotated maps — give each game a private score from 0 to 100, follow your progress and log your play sessions. The app works offline and with no user account.

Distribution and hosting

The Grym app is distributed through Apple’s App Store and hosted on their servers. Data created by the user is stored locally on their device; the publisher runs no server and has no access to this content.

Technologies

The app is built in Swift and SwiftUI, with SwiftData for local persistence and StoreKit 2 for the in-app purchase. Apple’s native frameworks are used for the camera, the photo library and Spotlight indexing.

Game data — IGDB

Game metadata (titles, release years, cover art, images) comes from the IGDB API, a service operated by Twitch Interactive, Inc. This content remains the property of its respective rights holders — video game publishers and studios — and is shown for information only. Grym is affiliated with neither IGDB, nor Twitch, nor any video game publisher.

Game names, trademarks and images shown in the app or in its screenshots belong to their respective owners.

Intellectual property

Every element making up the Grym app — source code, user interfaces, icons, illustrations, animations, texts and visual identity — is the exclusive property of Julien Taret and is protected by copyright.

Any reproduction, representation or adaptation, in whole or in part, is prohibited without prior authorisation.

Content created by the user in their notebooks — texts, photos, maps, notes — remains entirely their own property.

Introduction

This privacy policy describes how the Grym app handles your information.

Grym runs with no account, no server and no analytics. The publisher has access to none of your content.

Data you create

Grym keeps only what you enter yourself:

  • The games added to your collection and their cover art
  • Your pages and your blocks: texts, checklists, photos, annotated maps and their landmarks
  • Your personal scores (0 to 100) and your progress statuses
  • Your play sessions: duration, how you felt, free note
  • Your preferences: language, theme, display mode, sorting and filtering

Data storage

All of this data is stored locally on your device, in the app’s database and, for images, in its support folder. No iCloud syncing is active in this version: your notebooks do not leave the device you created them on.

Depending on your iOS settings, the app’s database may be included in your device backup. Image files (cover art, block photos, maps) are excluded from the backup so as not to bloat it.

Data shared with third parties

Only one category of information leaves your device, and only when you add a game:

  • IGDB (Twitch Interactive, Inc.) — your search text and the identifiers of the games you view are sent to the IGDB API to retrieve titles, release years and images. No personal data, no user or device identifier is attached to these requests. The content of your notebooks is never transmitted.
  • Apple — buying the Complete Edition is handled by the App Store through StoreKit. The publisher neither receives nor keeps any payment data.

Permissions requested

  • Photo library — only when you add a photo or a map image to a block. The images you choose are copied into the app, on your device.
  • Camera — only if you take a photo from within a block.

These permissions can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings → Grym.

System search (Spotlight)

The titles of your games and pages are indexed in Spotlight so you can find them from the iPhone home screen. This index is managed by iOS, stays on your device and disappears with the app.

No tracking

Grym contains no analytics tools, no advertising and no trackers. No user profile is built. Your data is neither sold, nor rented, nor shared.

Your rights

Since your data is exclusively local, you keep full control of it:

  • Access — all of your content can be viewed in the app
  • Correction — everything is editable directly in your notebooks
  • Deletion — delete a game, a page or a block in the app; uninstalling the app erases all data from the device
  • Portability — exporting your notebooks is planned for a future update

For any question about your data: contact@applemousse-studio.fr

Children

Grym is not aimed specifically at children and knowingly collects no data about them.

Changes

Any significant change will be notified through an app update. The date of the last update is shown at the top of this document.
