AppleMousse Studio: how does it start?

Almost a year ago I started building iOS apps. Here is how it all came together under a single banner: AppleMousse Studio.

AppleMousse Studio: how does it start?

For almost a year now I have been building mobile apps, all of them centred on iOS. That produced a handful of applications, most of them in production and available on the App Store.

But once the creative rush of the early days had passed, and the moment came to take stock and think things through, I asked myself the obvious question: what direction am I going to give all of this?

Here is the answer: gather every one of those creations into a sort of “hub”, which I named AppleMousse Studio.

Did it come out of nowhere? A bit, and at the same time not really…

It all starts with looking for a name: a slightly easy pun between Apple (iOS apps — you follow?) and pamplemousse, French for grapefruit, because after all, why not?

Once you have the name, the research begins. The logo, the colours, the general direction you want to push.

In that order: the name gives you the logo, the logo gives you the colours and the graphic tone, and from there you work out a website and a visual identity.

Moving my apps’ creative identity into one place also opens the door to possible collaborations later on. There are plenty of possibilities, and it makes what comes next rather exciting.

What’s next?

A new app is on its way, and a possible redesign of some of the existing ones.

I also like the idea of extending what I say into other channels, YouTube for instance. Short small-talk formats where I lay out ideas, trains of thought, tricks in the way apps get designed.

I do not particularly plan to talk about code or go deep into the technical side of app development — plenty of people do that better than I do. But nothing in life is impossible, or final.

To be continued, then!
