Frequently asked questions

How do you play, in two sentences?

A secret code hides behind three, four or five colours, each carrying a value from 1 to 5. Each turn, three statements are offered without their verdict: you pick one, the game then reveals whether it is true or false, and you make of it what you can.

Is a false statement a wasted move?

No, and that is the heart of the game. A false statement gives you the opposite constraint: if “Iris is greater than Cobalt” is false, then Iris ≤ Cobalt. You learn exactly as much as if it had been true. There is no bad draw to suffer, only reasoning that is more or less efficient.

What is the elimination grid for?

It is your scratch pad. One row per colour, one cell per value: tap a cell to cross it out, hold it to lock the value. The game never crosses anything out for you — the grid records only your own deductions.

What happens if I submit a wrong code?

Nothing stops. The discarded code joins a permanently visible list, which itself becomes material for deduction. Only the right code or giving up ends a game.

I have run out of clues — have I lost?

Not at all. Hitting the clue ceiling only stops new statements coming: the grid and the clues you have already used stay on screen, and you keep searching.

What are the jokers for?

A joker crosses out, on your behalf, a value the code does not carry, drawn at random from the cells still open. It is a crutch, not a solution: the allowance shrinks with difficulty — three on easy, two on normal, one on hard.

How is the score calculated?

A solved puzzle is worth 10 points. In Divination mode, every clue used beyond the difficulty’s free threshold costs a point; without that mode, solving the puzzle is worth full marks. A clue’s verdict, true or false, has no effect on the score.

What does difficulty change?

It changes the nature of the clues served, not just their number: hard mode serves more indirect statements, grants fewer jokers and tightens the threshold beyond which clues cost points.

Does Chromata work offline?

Entirely. Puzzles are generated on your device: no connection is needed to play, neither at launch nor during a game.

Where are my games saved?

On your device, and nowhere else. The Scores tab keeps your total score, your rank and the detail of every game played — statement by statement, verdict by verdict.

What is in the full version?

A one-off purchase, never a subscription, unlocking 4- and 5-colour codes, hard mode and timed mode. The game installs and plays for free: 3-colour codes, easy and normal difficulties, unlimited games, tutorial included.

I changed iPhone — how do I get my purchase back?

Open the Settings tab, tap the banner leading to the purchase screen and choose Restore purchases. Use the same Apple ID as when you bought it.

How do I replay the tutorial?

Settings tab, Help section: “Replay the tutorial” runs the six hands-on steps explaining the grid, the statements and their verdict.

How do I change the language?

Settings tab, Language section: switching between French and English is immediate and also affects how the statements are phrased, not just the interface.

App publisher

Chromata is a mobile application developed and published by:

Description

Chromata is a solo logic-deduction game for iOS. The player has to find a secret code of three to five colours, each carrying a value from 1 to 5, by consuming statements whose verdict is unknown at the moment of choosing them. Puzzles are generated on the device. The app works offline, with no user account and no advertising.

Distribution and hosting

The Chromata app is distributed through Apple’s App Store and hosted on their servers. Games, settings and score are stored locally on the user’s device; the publisher runs no server and has access to none of this information.

Technologies

The app is built in Swift and SwiftUI, with SwiftData for local persistence of game history and StoreKit 2 for the in-app purchase. Puzzle generation and clue resolution rely on a deduction engine specific to the project, running entirely on the device.

Intellectual property

Every element making up the Chromata app — source code, game engine, user interfaces, icons, colour palette and naming, the phrasing of the statements, texts and visual identity — is the exclusive property of Julien Taret and is protected by copyright.

Any reproduction, representation or adaptation, in whole or in part, is prohibited without prior authorisation.

Independence

Chromata is an original creation. Logic-deduction mechanics belong to the domain of game rules and are claimed by no one; the theme, the palette, the colour naming, the phrasing of the statements and the art direction are specific to the project. The app is not affiliated with any game publisher, nor with any other brand of the same kind.

In-app purchase

The app offers a single non-consumable in-app purchase, Chromata Premium, handled exclusively by Apple through the App Store. The terms are set out in the terms of sale.

Introduction

This privacy policy describes how the Chromata app handles your information.

Chromata runs with no account, no server and no analytics. The app collects no personal data: under App Store rules, it is declared as “Data Not Collected”.

Data the app keeps

Chromata records only what your play produces:

  • Your game history: the code searched for, the clues consumed and their verdict, discarded codes, duration, score obtained
  • Your total score and the rank that follows from it
  • Your settings: code length, difficulty, timed mode, Divination mode, validated digits
  • Your interface language and whether you have already seen the tutorial

No name, no email address, no device identifier and no location data are requested or recorded.

Data storage

All of this information is stored locally on your device: game history in the app’s database, settings in the app’s system preferences. Nothing is sent to the publisher, who runs no server and therefore has no way of accessing it.

Depending on your iOS settings, this data may be included in your device backup, managed by Apple.

Data shared with third parties

Only one interaction leaves your device, and only if you buy the full version:

  • Apple — buying Chromata Premium and restoring it are handled by the App Store through StoreKit. The publisher neither receives nor keeps any payment data, nor anything that could identify you.

Outside of that purchase, the app makes no network requests: puzzles are generated on the device, and a whole game plays without a connection.

Permissions requested

None. Chromata accesses neither the camera, nor the photo library, nor contacts, nor location, nor notifications.

No tracking

Chromata contains no analytics tools, no advertising and no trackers. No user profile is built, no advertising identifier is read. Your data is neither sold, nor rented, nor shared — the publisher simply does not have it.

Your rights

Since your data is exclusively local, you keep full control of it:

  • Access — your entire history can be viewed in the Scores tab
  • Deletion — uninstalling the app erases all data from the device, history and settings included
  • Portability — as the publisher holds no data, there is nothing to transfer from one service to another

For any question about your data: contact@applemousse-studio.fr

Children

Chromata is rated 4+ and contains no sensitive content, no advertising and no social features. It knowingly collects no data about children — nor about anyone else.

Changes

Any significant change will be notified through an app update. The date of the last update is shown at the top of this document.
